KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil expressed his condolences to the family of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Radio head Azlan Idris, who died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) early this morning.

Through a Facebook post, Fahmi also extended his condolences to the late Azlan’s friends, particularly his colleagues at Bernama.

“I am saddened by his passing and extend my condolences to his wife, Wan Syahrina Wan Ab Rahman, who is the Bernama TV Channel and Content Manager,” he said.

“All his services and contributions to the broadcasting industry will always be appreciated. May Allah SWT place him among the righteous. Al-Fatihah,” he said.

Azlan, 57, was among the earliest individuals to join Bernama Radio following its establishment in 2007.

Throughout his service, Azlan played a pivotal role in shaping the operational direction of the radio station, including formulating strategies to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of Bernama Radio amid mounting challenges facing the national broadcasting industry, particularly following the rapid expansion of digital technology.

He had also previously served with television broadcasters TV3 and NTV7.

Azlan is survived by his wife and four children.

It is understood that his remains were taken to Masjid Usamah bin Zaid in Wangsa Maju for funeral rites and will be laid to rest at the Raudatul Sakinah Cemetery, Taman Selasih, Gombak, at about 11 am today.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad also expressed his condolences to the late Azlan’s family and hoped they would remain strong in facing this difficult time.

In a Facebook post, Dzulkefly said he regarded Azlan’s passing as a great loss to the country’s broadcasting industry.

He said the late Azlan was not only a ‘voice’ behind the scenes, but also one of the key pillars in building Bernama Radio since its establishment in 2007, adding that his dedication to shaping the direction of the national news radio station would always be remembered.

“I pray that the deceased’s soul will be blessed and placed among the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said.
