MOSCOW, Jan 9 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the economic situation in Germany is alarming, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Earlier, in a letter to his partners in the German ruling coalition, Merz described the situation in the German economy as critical and warned that 2026 would be "very difficult" for Germany.
"The economic situation in Germany remains alarming," he said at a press conference after the final meeting of the regional group of the Christian Social Union (CSU) at the Seeon Monastery. The meeting was broadcast by the Phoenix television channel.
Merz said the most dire situation is developing in the industry.
"But this also applies to most small and medium-sized businesses, as well as small-scale manufacturing," he said.
The poor economic situation negatively affects the German labour market, the chancellor said.
