S. KOREA'S IMPORTED CAR SALES LOG DOUBLE-DIGIT GROWTH IN 2025

SEOUL, Jan 6 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sales logged a double-digit growth in 2025 thanks to strong demand for German luxury models and United States (US) electric vehicles, industry data showed on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

The number of imported vehicles sold here jumped 16.7 per cent from a year earlier to 307,377 in 2025, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

In December last year, 28,608 foreign vehicles were sold here, up 21.6 per cent year-on-year.

German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 77,127 units last year.

Another German carmaker, Mercedes-Benz, came next with the sale of 68,467 units, followed by US automaker Tesla with 59,916 units, Volvo with 14,903 units, Lexus with 14,891 units and Audi with 11,001 units.

The number of European models sold in the country was 206,245 last year, taking up 67.1 per cent of the total, while the US, Japanese and Chinese brands recorded the market shares of 22.3 per cent, 8.7 per cent and 2.0 per cent each.
