PARENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SCHOOL HOLIDAYS TO SHOP FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES

JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- With the school holidays set to end in about two weeks, parents are using the remaining time to prepare for the opening of the new school term.

A Bernama observation at a shopping mall here found that most parents preferred to purchase school items early to avoid crowds and shortages of sizes closer to the school reopening.

Father of two, Mohd Zulfadhli Mostapa, 38, said he bought his children’s school uniform, shoes and stationery early to avoid the rush towards the end of the holidays.

“I do it early so there is no last-minute rush and no worry about sizes being unavailable. Prices have gone up, but we just have to accept it,” he said.

He added that his family did not plan any holiday trips during this school break as his son, Muhammad Adam Zahirul Haq, 14, was involved in football training.

A mother who wished to be known as Nur said the school holidays were also used to spend time with family at home.

“I don’t want to shop at the last minute because I am worried about sizes running out. Even though prices are somewhat high, my children’s needs remain the priority,” she said.

She said she preferred shopping at shopping centres as it allowed her to buy all the required school items in one place.

Meanwhile, administrative assistant Zuliana Japar, 42, said the remaining school holidays were spent engaging in activities with her children at the shopping centre, as school preparations had been completed earlier.

She said indoor activities were preferred due to the unpredictable weather in recent days.
