JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested twelve local men and a Vietnamese woman believed to be involved in a riot using weapons at a restaurant in Taman Mount Austin here yesterday.
Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the incident occurred around 3 am when two local men, both aged 27, were attacked by a group of men aged between 20 and 40.
He said all 13 suspects were arrested between 3 am on the same day and 12.40 am last night at several locations in the district.
“The victims were attacked with metal chairs and meat cleavers, leaving one of them with injuries to the head, arm and calf, as well as scratches on the body,” he said in a statement.
He said the incident, which also went viral on social media, is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding related to personal debt.
Raub said police are currently tracking down other suspects believed to be involved in the case, and have seized seven mobile phones, a knife, and clothing used during the incident for investigation.
Seven of the suspects arrested have prior criminal and drug-related records, while six tested positive for ketamine.
The 12 male suspects have been remanded for seven days, while the Vietnamese woman has been remanded for three days, starting today.
