KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded statements from three individuals yesterday as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in the procurement of army projects.
According to sources, the MACC is intensifying its probe, which began on Dec 23, by scrutinising accounts suspected of being linked to procurement-related corruption.
“Initial investigations found that between 2023 and 2025, there were 158 army procurement projects that exceeded RM500,000, while for project procurements of below RM500,000, there were 4,521 projects.
“A preliminary review of these projects revealed that several companies repeatedly secured high-value contracts, raising suspicions,” the source said.
The source added that a detailed profiling of the companies involved has yet to be carried out.
Yesterday, the MACC received a complaint and recorded a statement from activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, at its headquarters in Putrajaya at around noon, regarding information he had obtained.
Last Tuesday, MACC officers visited the Ministry of Defence and focused their investigations on projects implemented through open tender processes, as well as procurement under the “Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ) Tentera Darat”.
Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
He stressed that all investigations are being conducted independently and professionally, based on facts and evidence, and in accordance with existing legal provisions.
