SEREMBAN, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan recorded 299 cases of influenza in week 41, from Oct 5 to 11, compared to 154 cases in the previous week, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He said most of the cases involved students, including government education institutions and boarding schools as well as private educational institutions, with the majority being treated as outpatients and were in stable condition.

"For the reported influenza and Influenza-like illness (ILI) clusters, the state Health Department has implemented control measures in all schools involved, including disinfection of classrooms, dormitories and prayer rooms.

"In addition, other measures include providing health education to students, teachers and parents on personal hygiene and proper cough etiquette and conducting daily monitoring of symptomatic students at schools," he told reporters after chairing the exco meeting here today.

He said the District Health Office also provided technical input to schools regarding permission to return home and quarantine leave for symptomatic students, quarantine locations and the process of isolating symptomatic students, in addition to schools being asked to continue monitoring symptoms among students.

Aminuddin said risk groups such as children, pregnant women and the elderly are encouraged to get the influenza vaccine to prevent the disease.

Meanwhile, Aminuddin said the public is invited to attend the state-level Deepavali celebration scheduled to be held at Seremban Jaya Public Hall on Nov 8.
