KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) successfully collected RM89,250 in waqf (endowment) funds through the organisation of the 'Fun Run and Ride for Waqf 2025' Programme held today.
Its Chief Executive Officer, Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Azrin Adnan, said this was a result of the participation of 1,800 participants in the second edition of the programme, which combines aspects of physical, mental, and spiritual health, in line with the comprehensive concept of waqf.
He said the programme received an encouraging response from various segments of society, including children and senior citizens.
"We are very grateful that this programme received an encouraging response and showed a significant increase in participation compared to 1,200 participants last year.
"It is not just a recreational activity, but an approach to educate the community to make the practice of waqf a part of their lifestyle," he said when met at the flag-off ceremony for the Fun Run and Ride for Waqf 2025 Programme at Wisma Darul Iman, here today.
Also present were Terengganu State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali and MAIDAM President Datuk Shaikh Harun Shaikh Ismail.
Ahmad Azrin said the run was part of the Terengganu State Waqf Month 2025 celebrations, which will see its peak programme officiated by the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, on Oct 23.
"We also express our deepest gratitude to the sponsors and strategic partners who jointly made this programme a success. Continuous support is capable of making waqf a catalyst for the future economic development of the ummah (Muslim community)," he said.
