KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated that Malaysia welcomes any step that opens the path to peace in Gaza.
Anwar stressed that Malaysia also calls for restraint, an immediate halt to attacks, and unimpeded humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
"For Gaza, the rays of hope may come through soon, for only days ago, we see positive developments to the latest ceasefire proposal, bringing the promise that the suffering of the people of Gaza might finally end.
"Lasting peace will not come overnight, but it must begin with the courage to stop the killing and to uphold the sanctity of life," he said in his special address at Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2025 today.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that Malaysia stands in firm solidarity with all the courageous and dedicated participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla mission as well as all who work towards a just and durable peace that secures the rights of the Palestinian people and the realisation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
"As of October 4, all 23 Malaysians who took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission, have been released by the Israeli authorities," he noted.
On Thursday (Oct 2), the 23 Malaysian activists who joined the GSF mission were detained by the Zionist regime's troops after their vessels were intercepted in international waters near the R3 red zone of the Mediterranean Sea before being taken to the Port of Ashdod in Israel.
The GSF, comprising over 500 activists from 45 countries, had embarked on a voyage towards Gaza as a gesture of solidarity and an effort to break the Israeli blockade by carrying vital food and medical supplies for Palestinians affected by the Zionist regime's continuous attacks.
