KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Car drivers have been issued the highest number of summonses with 13,365 as of yesterday, throughout Operasi Patuh Undang-Undang (Op PUU) for law compliance by the Kuala Lumpur police since it began on Oct 1.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said motorcyclists received 2,813 summonses, followed by van and four-wheel-drive drivers with 200 summonses.
“A total of 141 summonses were issued to lorry drivers, 381 to pedestrians, 62 to taxi drivers, and six to bus drivers, bringing the total number of summonses issued during the five days of Op PUU to 16,968,” he said in a statement here today.
Fadil said the highest offence recorded was obstructing traffic, with 11,720 summonses, followed by disobeying traffic signals (2,036 summonses).
“Other offences included driving without or with expired licences (702 summonses), expired road tax (489), failure to use pedestrian bridges or crossings (381), running red lights (148), and vehicle modifications (80),” he said.
Kuala Lumpur police began issuing on-the-spot summonses to traffic offenders on Oct 1 through the ongoing Op PUU, conducted at all hours across the capital to ensure public compliance with traffic laws.
