KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Petaling won the YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil Cup after edging SMK Bangsar 1-0 in the final of the Under-18 Lembah Pantai Parliamentary Constituency Schools Football Championship at the SMK Seri Pantai Football Field here today.
Kampung Kerinchi Football Club chairman and tournament organiser, Muhammad Zulkarnain Maarof expressed gratitude for the successful inaugural edition of the championship, which received full support from Lembah Pantai MP Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who is also Communications Minister.
"Alhamdulillah, we feel grateful and fortunate for today’s tournament. God willing, we hope this championship will continue in the coming years and become an annual event," he told reporters.
He added that the tournament aims to nurture young talent from Lembah Pantai, helping them potentially represent Super League clubs and the national team.
In the third- and fourth-place playoff, SMK Bandaraya defeated SMK Seri Pantai 4-1 on penalties after the match ended 1-1.
Also present to witness the championship was Abdullah Izhar Mohamed Yusof, the Political Secretary to Fahmi.
The champions received RM1,000 and a trophy as their prize, while the runners-up took home RM500.
The third-place team won RM300, and the fourth-place team received RM200. Additionally, the teams that placed second to fourth also received a plaque.
Individual awards were presented for the Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, and Most Disciplined Team. Each award recipient received RM100 and a plaque.
