GAZA PEACE DEAL MUST GUARANTEE PALESTINE’S FULL LIBERATION - PM ANWAR

04/10/2025 06:41 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised Malaysia’s conditional support for the latest Gaza peace plan, stressing the need for guarantees of full freedom and independence for the Palestinian people.

He said the decision made by the Malaysian MADANI  Government on the matter also took into account the positions of Arab and Islamic countries, as well as Hamas’ own stance.

“Regarding the agreement, I have expressed limited support because we still want to see assurances of Palestine’s freedom and independence,” he said during a live broadcast on Facebook today.

Anwar said Hamas had accepted the initial terms calling for an end to attacks, the liberation of Gaza, and the creation of humanitarian space, as well as the release of all detainees both in Gaza and in Israel.

However, he said further details of the agreement must be refined to ensure a collective consensus is achieved involving Hamas, neighbouring Arab countries, and other Islamic nations.

“But those further details must be refined and analysed so that all parties, especially Hamas, neighbouring Arab countries and other Islamic nations, can be brought together,” he said.

“On Malaysia’s part, we will support and act on any reasonable decision reached collectively,” he added.

Earlier today, Hamas was reported to have accepted part of the 20 points contained in the peace plan proposed by United States President Donald Trump.

The plan reportedly includes the release of all Israeli captives within 72 hours of the plan’s approval, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

It also calls for a cessation of hostilities, the disarmament of all armed groups in Gaza, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory, which would then be administered by a technocratic authority.
