KLANG, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- The rakyat, particularly the people of Selangor, gathered today to witness a historic royal event, the solemnisation ceremony of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz.
From as early as 5 am, crowds began filling Jalan Istana, from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery towards Istana Alam Shah, eager for a closer glimpse of the historic occasion.
The ceremony commenced with Tengku Amir Shah, looking resplendent in a white outfit and a songkok, paraded for approximately 650 metres from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery to Istana Alam Shah in a Rolls-Royce A1 palace vehicle, marking the start of the much-anticipated event.
Accompanying him were members of the royal family and the Orang Besar Istana Selangor, followed by a formation of the 25th Regiment of the Royal Malay Army, with the atmosphere enlivened by the rhythmic beating of the Selangor Royal Palace’s kompang group.
People of all races, dressed in traditional attire such as Baju Melayu and batik, captured the historic moment, chanting “Daulat Tuanku” and holding banners conveying congratulations and the heartfelt wish “Selamat Pengantin Baharu”.
Uda Angah, 50, who came with 40 villagers from Kampung Batu 12, Gombak, said she was thrilled upon learning that the Raja Muda of Selangor, who often visits her village and provides various forms of assistance, would be tying the knot with his beloved partner.
The woman from the Orang Asli Temiar tribe said that, in gratitude for his good deeds to the villagers, they chose to attend the ceremony in traditional attire to celebrate this meaningful occasion together.
“Although Gombak is not far from here, this is our first time in the Royal City of Klang. Watching the Raja Muda of Selangor’s procession against the backdrop of the old buildings offered a unique view and atmosphere. It was well worth waiting since early morning,” she told Bernama today.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old A Navin was thrilled to see Tengku Amir Shah up close, joining the crowd in offering his congratulations to His Royal Highness.
“I arrived here at around 5.30 am with the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) team. Many places were already full, but we managed to find a good spot, hoping to get a chance to interact with His Royal Highness and take pictures.
“It was a wonderful experience since such moments are rare for people like me. It was tiring, but completely worth it, as if I were part of today’s solemnisation procession,” he said.
Adli Zaim Azham, 34, said his past experience working with Tengku Amir Shah on a youth programme brought him, along with 40 residents and staff from Rumah Sahabat Hulu Langat, to join the royal wedding procession today.
“RMS (the Raja Muda of Selangor) is someone very dear to us. Just now, His Royal Highness turned around and smiled at us. I could hear continuous congratulations from people lining the route.
“I would like to take this opportunity to offer my heartfelt congratulations to the RMS and his wife. We pray for their happiness and for the continued prosperity of this state under the rule of the Sultan of Selangor,” he said.
Tengku Amir Shah solemnised his marriage with Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini at Masjid Istana Diraja, Istana Alam Shah, here at 10.08 am.
The solemnisation ceremony was also graced by the presence of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
