KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Executive Director of KL Wellness City, Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew, has achieved a historic milestone by completing the Ironman World Championship in Nice, France, one of the toughest Ironman courses in the world.
Master developer KL Wellness City Sdn Bhd, in a statement, said that building on this achievement, Vincent is now preparing to take on an unprecedented challenge — competing in three more full Ironman races within the next 80 days, namely Ironman Barcelona (Spain), Ironman Florida (USA) and Ironman Busselton (Western Australia).
“The Ironman World Championship was not only a dream come true and a milestone 14th race for him, but a feat made more remarkable as he competed while still recovering from a June injury.
"Despite this setback, he demonstrated resilience, determination and mental strength to complete one of the toughest endurance challenges in the world," the statement read.
It said out of eight Malaysians who qualified and represented the country in Nice, an impressive seven crossed the finish line, including Vincent and former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
"Completing such a challenging race, especially alongside fellow Malaysians, was a moment of immense pride and a testament to their collective determination," it said.
The Ironman World Championship in Nice challenged athletes with a 3.8 kilometre (km) swim in the unpredictable Mediterranean, followed by a gruelling 180km cycling route through the French Alps, a distance almost equivalent to cycling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh but featuring repeated climbs and descents comparable to ascending and descending Genting Highlands.
The final leg, a 42.2km marathon under the Mediterranean sun, pushed participants to their absolute limits, leading many seasoned triathletes to consider Nice among the most unforgiving World Championship routes for its demands on both physical endurance and mental resilience.
His success as an entrepreneur underscored that wellness is a lifelong journey, balancing demanding work with training through immense discipline, consistency and time management.
Meanwhile, Vincent, in the same statement, said that conquering the Ironman World Championship in Nice was more than a personal triumph, as it proved that Malaysians can excel even on the world’s toughest stage.
“The climbs in the Alps and the intensity of the course tested every ounce of strength, but crossing the line alongside Syed Saddiq and our fellow athletes made the moment unforgettable.
“For me, this journey reflects the values of wellness, resilience and consistency, the same principles we uphold at KL Wellness City. Now, I look forward to pushing my boundaries further with three more Ironman races in the next 80 days,” he said.
