SINGAPORE, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- A 37-year-old Malaysian man was arrested in Singapore last Saturday for attempting to smuggle over 3.8 kilogrammes (kg) of drugs valued more than S$394,000, authorities said on Tuesday.

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said the drugs, which consisted of 1,908g of heroin, 1,655g of cannabis, and 268g of ‘Ice’, were seized from the man’s car during enhanced checks at the Tuas Checkpoint.

“The drugs seized could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,300 abusers for a week. Investigations are ongoing,” the agencies said in a joint statement.

ICA officers had directed the car for further inspection and discovered two black bundles, suspected to contain controlled drugs, concealed within the rear boot panel.

Further checks by CNB officers uncovered an additional six black bundles hidden in various compartments of the vehicle.

Under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine, or “pure heroin”, more than 250g of methamphetamine, or more than 500g of cannabis, may face the death penalty.
