KOTA BHARU, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysian tourists heading to southern Thailand during the school holidays and Malaysia Day celebrations were advised to contact the Thai Tourist Police hotline at 1155, which operates 24 hours a day for any emergency assistance.
Thailand Tourist Police (Seventh Region) Deputy Chief, Lt Col Sakarin Anusaman Sakul, said the hotline provides services in seven languages: Malay, Chinese, Tamil, Arabic, English, Russian, and Thai, and is directly managed by tourist police officers.
He said tourist police officers are trained to handle cases involving lost travel documents, accidents, petty crimes, and tourist scams, in addition to working closely with immigration and local enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of international visitors.
“In addition to the hotline, tourist police officers are also stationed at key locations to monitor the area and guarantee visitor safety, especially during the school holiday season, which sees a high influx of Malaysian tourists,” he told Bernama today.
Based in Hatyai, Sakarin said over 200,000 Malaysian tourists have been recorded entering seven southern Thai provinces since the school holidays began last week, with Songkhla, Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala being among the main destinations.
He also advised tourists to comply with local laws, including speed limits on highways in the kingdom.
