UNEMPLOYED MAN CHARGED WITH DANGEROUS DRIVING, CAUSING DEATH OF TEENAGER

SEREMBAN,  Sept 9  (Bernama) -- An unemployed man pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of dangerous driving to the extent of causing the death of a teenager last month.

R. Puvarasan, 28, made the plea before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.

The man, who was then at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz car, is charged with driving in a dangerous manner that caused the death of Che Wan Muhammad Aqif Mustaqim Che Faizal, 18, at Jalan Temiang, here, at about 6.35 am last Aug 6.

The charge, under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), provides imprisonment for up to 10 years and a maximum fine of RM50,000, as well as will be disqualified from holding and obtaining a driving licence for a period of not more than five years from the date of conviction, if convicted.

The court allowed him bail of RM5,000 with one surety and set Nov 6 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor P. Rubini appeared for the prosecution, while Puvarasan was represented by lawyer P. S. Tamil Arsoo.
