KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- A consortium comprising Citaglobal Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Citaglobal Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar) has been shortlisted by the Energy Commission of Malaysia to develop a large-scale solar (LSS) photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 200-megawatt (MW) at the Chereh Dam in Kuantan, Pahang.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Citaglobal said the consortium received a letter of notification subject to certain terms and conditions, including the execution of a 21-year solar power purchase agreement with Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

“The plant is also scheduled to begin commercial operations by Nov 30, 2027,” it said.

Upon completion, the Chereh Dam plant will be Southeast Asia’s largest floating solar power facility, surpassing the region’s current benchmark: the 145 MW of alternating current (MWac) Cirata Floating Solar Plant in Indonesia, developed by Masdar and PT PLN Nusantara Power.

Occupying approximately 303.51 hectares of water surface, the Chereh Dam plant will have a generation capacity of more than 300MW peak (MWp) and is expected to produce an average of 433 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually, which can power the equivalent of over 100,000 Malaysian homes.
