KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Langkahan Merdeka programme organised today by Bernama Digital Library in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and Kebun Bandar Sungai Bunus (KBSB) was held to promote the national language and encourage a healthy lifestyle among Bernama staff.

The programme featured activities such as the ‘6,800 Merdeka Steps’ Walk, a TikTok video competition, a patriotic poetry song contest and book review sessions.

DBP Promotion and Recognition Division head Roziah Md Yunus said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen the use of the national language as part of Malaysia’s identity.

“We believe this programme is a meaningful way to nurture pride in being Malaysians and should be expanded further with broader participation,” she told Bernama.

Roziah said DBP would continue to support initiatives that empower the national language across the public sector, social organisations and non-governmental organisations.

Meanwhile, Bernama Digital Library senior manager Hasnita Ibrahim said the programme also promoted work-life balance, stressing the importance of mental and physical health for productivity and team spirit.

“A healthy work environment starts with healthy individuals. We want Bernama staff to excel in their duties while also enjoying happiness and good health in their daily lives,” she said.
