BUKIT MERTAJAM, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- A trailer truck skidded and crashed into a lamp post in the middle of a road divider, causing a diesel spill on Jalan Perindustrian Bukit Minyak here today.
The incident caused a traffic jam in the area as the road had to be closed for cleaning up of the oil spill.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, John Sagun Francis, said they received an emergency call at 12:57 pm, and a team of firefighters from the Perai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were immediately dispatched to the location.
"The accident involved an empty trailer truck that skidded and hit a lamp post, causing a leak in its 800-litre diesel storage tank.
"The Operations Commander assessed the situation, and cleanup work was carried out using soil and water spray until it was completed. The operation ended at 2:37 pm after ensuring the location was safe," he said in a statement today.
He added that the truck driver and co-driver, aged 59 and 23 respectively, did not suffer any injuries.
