SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Work to upgrade several sports infrastructure for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which Selangor will host, is proceeding smoothly and slated for full completion next March.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the sports infrastructure upgrading process, including stadiums, local authority halls and the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre (PADE), had begun and is set to be completed according to schedule.
He said that although the PADE, which is the pride of Selangor folks, is undergoing a comprehensive upgrading process, the welfare of tenants there is being taken care of through payment exemption and the provision of alternative facilities throughout the work period.
"We believe that the biennial Games are not just a platform for competition, but also a catalyst for the state's economic development through the tourism, hospitality, logistics and services sectors.
"The thousands of visitors attending the Games will spur the local economy - from the hawkers to the major industries,” he posted on Facebook today.
Amirudin believes that with the modern infrastructure, thorough preparation and the people's support, the Selangor contingent will be able to regain its glory and emerge as the overall champion.
He said all these efforts were not just meant for success at SUKMA 2026, but to produce the next generation of athletes, build the state's economy and elevate the prestige of national sports.
"Together, let's make SUKMA 2026 the pride and glory of Selangor and all Malaysians!” he said.
The opening ceremony of SUKMA 2026 (from Aug 15-24) and Para SUKMA (Sept 5-14) will be held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
