KLIA TO COMMENCE VEHICLE ACCESS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TRIAL RUN STARTING SEPT 1

30/08/2025 08:11 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- KL International Airport (KLIA) will commence a trial run of its new Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) to improve kerbside traffic flow and provide smoother access to the terminals.

In a statement, Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said that the Terminal 1 trial period at Level 5 (departure drop-off) and Level 3 (arrival pick-up), will begin on Sept 1 until Nov 31, 2025.

It said that for Terminal 2, the VAMS trial period will commence from Sept 15 until Nov 30, 2025.

The airport operator said the trial aimed to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and provide smoother access to the terminal.

“The system introduces timed entry and exit via barrier gates, designed to reduce congestion caused by unauthorised or extended stops at the kerbside,” it said.

During the trial phase, VAMS will grant vehicles a 10-minute grace period for drop-offs and pick-ups, with the system monitoring vehicles that remain beyond this time.

“No penalty fees will be imposed during the trial period. Instead, the focus will be on observing traffic patterns, driver behaviour and overall system performance to determine the optimal grace period and penalty fee structure for full implementation,” it said.

Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the airport terminal is often a traveller’s first and final impression of Malaysia.

“We want that (impression) to reflect our hospitality and efficiency, particularly as we prepare for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he added.
