PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia strongly condemned the Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, on Aug. 25, which killed at least 20 people, including medical personnel and journalists, and injured many others.
The Foreign Ministry said Malaysia reiterates its strong opposition to the targeting of hospitals, journalists, and humanitarian workers, stressing that such acts constitute a flagrant violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law that explicitly prohibit attacks on medical facilities and the press.
It added that such actions constitute war crimes and must not be allowed to go unpunished. The deliberate targeting of journalists is not only a heinous crime against innocent lives, but also a direct attack on press freedom.
“Malaysia urges the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to immediately act with resolve to halt Israel’s ongoing atrocities and to hold the regime fully accountable.
“Malaysia also urges all parties to redouble efforts towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to international media reports, those killed included four health workers, as well as five journalists — later named as Ahed Abu Aziz, Hussam al-Masri, Mariam Dagga, Mohammed Salama and Moaz Abu Taha.
They worked for outlets including Middle East Eye, the Associated Press, Al Jazeera and Reuters.
