KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who represented Malaysia at the meeting, strongly condemned Israel's military actions in Gaza in Malaysia’s National Statement, stating they were intended to permanently occupy Palestinian land.
Mohamad, according to a statement issued by Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, Wisma Putra, on Tuesday, also highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the United Nations (UN) has officially declared famine, stressing the urgency of addressing the escalating death toll and human suffering.
“The foreign minister (Mohamad) urged OIC member states to continue raising their voices and take decisive actions to achieve peace and justice for Palestine,” the statement said.
The emergency OIC meeting was convened to address the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, to deliberate on mechanisms to stop the genocide, and to discuss Israel’s plans aimed at further establishing the occupation and complete control over the Gaza Strip.
The meeting adopted a resolution titled: The 21st Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the OIC Cooperation to Consider the Continuing Israeli Aggression Against the Palestinian People. The full resolution is available on the OIC’s official website.
The resolution, among others, strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza, describing it as genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.
Issued by the headquarters of the general secretariat of the OIC, it rejected Israel’s announced plans to impose full occupation and military control over Gaza, stressing that such actions threaten regional and international peace and violate international law.
The meeting demanded an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the blockade, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, holding Israel fully responsible for the famine and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
The council called on the UN Security Council to convene a special session, pressed for accountability through the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice, and urged states to impose sanctions, suspend arms supplies, and review relations with Israel.
It reiterated support for the two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital, rejected displacement plans, condemned attacks on holy sites and journalists, and highlighted the need for international recognition of the State of Palestine.
It further urged coordinated diplomatic and legal action to end Israeli impunity and advance a just, lasting peace.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Mohamad also held bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait, Pakistan and Qatar, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and the situation in Palestine.
