SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The High Court will decide tomorrow whether to allow the exhumation of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) trainee Syamsul Haris Shamsudin’s grave for a second post-mortem.
Justice Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet set the date after hearing submissions from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General as the first and second respondents, and the deceased’s mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, as the applicant.
The judge said the court required time to review an affidavit recently filed by the applicant.
Senior federal counsel Nurul Huda Mohd Salehuddin appeared for the IGP, while Selangor prosecution director Kalmizah Salleh represented the Attorney-General, and Datuk Naran Singh acted for Ummu Haiman Bee.
Naran said the supplementary affidavit filed on Aug 23 included a transcript and a USB drive containing material involving an “Individual A” linked to the case.
Meanwhile, outside the courtroom, Ummu Haiman Bee, 45, expressed hope that the court would allow the exhumation of her son’s grave to enable a second post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
On Aug 19, she filed the application seeking, among others, a second post-mortem and the initiation of an inquest into her son’s death.
Syamsul Haris, 22, died on July 28 at Hospital Kota Tinggi, Johor, while undergoing training at the Combat Inoculation Firing Range, Army Combat Training Centre in Ulu Tiram, Johor.
He was buried the following day at the Kampung Riching Ulu Muslim cemetery in Selangor.
