JAKARTA, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- A historic moment unfolded at the Ragunan Student Sports Training Centre (PPOP) in South Jakarta today, when national athletics athlete Azlan Kuste delivered Malaysia’s first gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games for the Deaf.

Even sweeter, the triumph came in his favourite event - the men’s 800 metres - where he clocked 2 minutes 03.97 seconds to successfully defend the title he first claimed at the inaugural Kuala Lumpur 2022 edition.

The triumph was made even more meaningful with the presence of his teammate, Aidil A. Asyraf Juakim, who secured the silver medal for Malaysia with a time of 2:05.21s, while Brunei’s Md Amiruddin Md Zain claimed the bronze in 2:12.20s.

The cheers of the Malaysian contingent echoed from the sidelines, accompanying every stride of Azlan and Aidil as they surged towards the finish line, before both athletes raised their hands in triumph - a symbolic gesture of a promising start to Malaysia’s campaign on Indonesian soil.

The second edition of the SEA Games for the Deaf continues until Aug 26.
