SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is looking into the use of a suitable super app to coordinate the implementation of the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system, said state Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.
He said the State Digital Infrastructure Committee as the responsible party is awaiting suggestions from the market so that the implementation of smart parking throughout the state runs smoothly.
"What is certain is that when this parking operation is taken over by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB), we expect more infrastructure such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be installed in parking lots in Selangor because that will tighten enforcement.
"This is because our collection level for parking areas throughout Selangor is only 50 per cent and the rest cannot be collected because people usually won't pay if there is no enforcement, so we need a more neat, uniform and organised enforcement method," he said.
He said this when met after the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award presentation ceremony here today.
Mohammad Fahmi said that so far the state government has no plans to increase the parking fee rate, thus emphasising that the implementation of smart parking focuses on strengthening enforcement.
He said the estimated annual collection of parking lots throughout Selangor reached about RM100 million a year and through the implementation of a more efficient collection system, the amount could reach up to RM200 million.
"With the increase, it will be able to be reused to improve infrastructure and also manage existing parking spaces," he said.
