KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Singapore-based data centre developer and operator, DayOne has announced a landmark 1.2 billion euros investment to develop a hyperscale data centre campus in Lahti, marking one of Finland’s most significant digital infrastructure projects to date. DayOne Data Centers Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Khoo said Finland is an ideal strategic choice for the company’s European growth.
“We are proud to invest 1.2 billion euros in the Lahti project into the Finnish economy and collaborate closely with Lahti to drive local innovation and sustainability,” said Khoo.
The Lahti data centre project will transform a former industrial site, located in the neighbourhood of Kiveriö, into an advanced, high-performance digital infrastructure facility with the site that, spanning 98,901 square metres, is fully zoned for industrial usage.
DayOne in a statement said construction will commence with site demolition in the third quarter this year, and operations are scheduled to be ready for service in 2027.
The data centre campus has been designed with minimal disruption to neighbouring areas and aligns with long-term sustainable land-use goals, in which facilities are designed aiming for LEED Gold certification or higher.
The company’s investment will significantly bolster Lahti’s digital economy while contributing to job creation in the city and across Finland, with the expectation of supporting a progressive ramp-up of 100 direct skilled positions and employing 1,000 construction workers onsite at its construction peak.
With a global presence spanning Asia Pacific and Europe, DayOne will enter into a Growth Partnership Agreement with the City of Lahti, Lahti Region Development LADEC, Lahti Energy, and local educational institutions, including a commitment of 2.5 million euros to LUT Universities as outlined in the agreement.
