AHMAD TASNIM BEATS ODDS TO EARN JAKIM-POLYTECHNIC TAHFIZ CERTIFICATE

SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- After persevering through five semesters, Ahmad Tasnim Fathullah Ahmad Hafidz has successfully earned the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM)-Polytechnic Al-Quran Tahfiz Certificate through the Techno-Huffaz Programme at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (PSA) here.

He was the only graduate to have completed the programme out of 11 students who had enrolled at the start.

The third of four siblings, who also holds a Diploma in Electronic Communication Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering, said he felt somewhat saddened when recalling how his peers had to withdraw and give up almost every other semester for various reasons.

“When I first enrolled at PSA, there were around 11 students in the programme, but by the fourth semester, nine had dropped the subject, while another failed the examination in the fifth semester.

“I admit it was challenging to divide my time between the Techno-Huffaz programme and other academic subjects, but my parents became my pillar of strength to keep me going until I graduated, even if it meant studying on my own,” he said after the 26th PSA Convocation Ceremony at the Al-Jazari Hall here today.

Ahmad Tasnim said that although he and his peers had prior experience and background in learning and memorising the Quran in their hometowns, adapting to the environment at PSA as new students three years ago proved to be a challenge.

He said the Techno-Huffaz programme was an additional subject that required students to balance their respective fields of study with Quranic studies, which included various syllabuses such as memorisation and tajwid.

Ahmad Tasnim said he planned to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Electronic Engineering at PSA and was open to sharing knowledge or tips with new students interested in the Techno-Huffaz programme in the future.

The Techno-Huffaz programme, introduced in 2017 for students in Business Studies, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at PSA, offers the JAKIM-Polytechnic Al-Quran Tahfiz Certification through a collaboration between Malaysian polytechnics and JAKIM’s Darul Quran, aiming to produce holistic and globally minded technocrat huffaz.

To date, 16 graduates have successfully obtained the dual recognition of a Polytechnic Diploma and the JAKIM Al-Quran Tahfiz Certificate, with 19 new students recently enrolling for the 2025/2026 session.

Earlier, the 22-year-old from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, was among 937 graduates celebrated at the 26th PSA Convocation Ceremony, bringing the total number of graduates from the institution since its inception in 1997 to 44,509.

Also present were PSA director Zainah Rujihan and Panasonic Appliance Air-Conditioning (M) Sdn Bhd corporate human resources director Datuk Moktar Mohd Salleh, who was the guest of honour, and presented certificates to graduates.
