KUALA TERENGGANU, June 30 (Bernama) -- The young girl who was in critical condition following the boat incident at Pulau Perhentian on Saturday is now reported to be in stable condition.
State Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris said T. Sakthivel, 6, who is receiving treatment at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ), has shown signs of recovery and is now able to eat as usual.
However, he said the hospital is continuing to monitor her condition closely due to concerns over possible breathing complications caused by excessive water aspiration, which may affect certain internal organs.
“Alhamdulillah, during my visit earlier, the doctor informed me that Sakthivel’s condition has improved and stabilised, and she is accompanied by her mother.
“However, the doctors have yet to discharge her as they still need to monitor her breathing. She did not suffer any external injuries, but during the incident, she had taken in a significant amount of seawater,” he said when contacted today.
At 10.30 pm on Saturday, three passengers, including two children, lost their lives after their boat capsized en route from Pulau Perhentian Kecil to Pulau Perhentian Besar after being struck by large waves.
