BUTTERWORTH, June 29 (Bernama) -- A comprehensive strategy is needed to ensure UMNO remains relevant to young voters under 40, who will constitute the majority group in the upcoming General Election, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
He said the initiative to engage with this group should not be the sole responsibility of UMNO Youth but instead, should be a collective effort involving the entire party machinery.
“This is a large group. They are critical thinkers and educated. If we don’t craft the right strategy to engage them, we will continue to lose support.
“We must do it together. This is a major group that will determine the party’s survival,” he told reporters after opening the Batu Kawan UMNO Division delegates meeting here today.
To capture the interest of this group, Shamsul Anuar, who is also Deputy Home Minister, said that UMNO must demonstrate that its current struggle remains aligned with the party’s founding principles to gain the trust of the younger generation.
Some youths, he added, may not be interested in the history or origins of UMNO’s struggle, but the way the message is delivered must adapt to changing times and the diverse interests among them.
