KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Oman’s State Audit Institution (SAI) has expressed its intention to establish a strategic partnership with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to strengthen international cooperation in combating corruption and enhancing governance.

In a statement, the MACC said that the matter was conveyed by SAI deputy chairman for Audit on Authorities, Investment and Companies, Zahra Mohamed Al Lawati, during a courtesy call on MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today.

“SAI is an independent body that reports directly to the Sultan of Oman and is tasked with overseeing financial and administrative controls, including auditing, performance monitoring, investment management, and the oversight of financial violations,” it said, adding that the institution recorded a significant improvement in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, reflecting a positive outcome of its governance efforts.

Also present during the visit were Oman’s ambassador to Malaysia Sheikh Al-Abbas Al Harthi, SAI director-general for Audit on Investments and Companies Mohammed Abdullah Al Harthy, SAI director of the deputy auditor’s office for Audit on Authorities, Investments and Companies, Ibrahim Said Al Azri and SAI Centre for Training and Development director, Salim Mohsin Al-Ghassani.

In the same statement, Azam emphasised that cross-border cooperation is crucial in the fight against corruption, noting that the exchange of knowledge and experience enables both agencies to enhance their integrity systems and foster public confidence in national institutions.

He also emphasised that dialogues like this serve as a foundation for building a borderless integrity network.

“Through joint training, strategic data exchange, and participation in international forums, both agencies hope to continue upholding integrity and transparency within their respective public institutions beyond geographical and cultural boundaries,” he added.
