JAKARTA, June 2 (Bernama) -- Rescue teams have recovered another body from a landslide at the Gunung Kuda stone quarry in West Java, bringing the death toll to 20, Indonesia’s disaster agency said Monday.
The victim, a 51-year-old man from Girinata village in Dukuputang subdistrict, was found at around 10.30 am local time, said National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Abdul Muhari.
“Five people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue,” he said in a statement.
The landslide struck the limestone quarry in Cirebon regency on May 30, trapping dozens of workers under tonnes of rock and debris.
Local authorities have declared a state of emergency from May 30 to June 6, with police, military, and emergency teams working together in the rescue operation.
BNPB has urged rescue teams to prioritise safety amid fears of further landslides, while residents near the affected area have been advised to stay vigilant and keep away from the site.
