KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- The Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to advance its maritime, halal, and future-focused industries.

The state agency said in a statement today that it signed an MoU with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government to explore cooperation in food security and strategic investment.

Another MoU was inked with global infrastructure player CHEC Construction (M) Sdn Bhd, outlining plans to develop the Bagan Datuk International Sea-Hub Multipurpose Terminal (BDI-SMT) and establish a halal and artificial intelligence industrial hub in Perak.

The BDI-SMT is a vital trade gateway to link China, ASEAN and GCC countries to the world. This partnership also includes the establishment of a halal and AI industrial hub in Perak, designed to strengthen ethical manufacturing, promote industrial digitalisation, and position Perak as a catalyst for emerging economic sectors.

It added that Perak Corporation Bhd will lead the development of the BDI-SMT. This project supports Perak’s vision for the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LUMIC) as a new engine of growth anchored in maritime, logistics, and industrial development.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the initiative reflects the state’s readiness to lead in sectors that will define the future of global trade and economic resilience.

“These partnerships demonstrate a clear shift towards commercially led initiatives prioritising agility, innovation, and long-term value creation,” he said.

The MoUs were signed in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit 2025, witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
