MOSCOW, May 29 (Bernama-TASS) -- Russia has offered to hold a meeting with Ukraine in Istanbul on June 2 to present a memorandum aimed at addressing the root causes of the ongoing crisis, said Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
He said the Russian delegation, led by Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, is ready to engage with the Ukrainian side and provide necessary explanations during the second round of direct talks, reported TASS news agency.
“As we agreed, the Russian side promptly developed a relevant memorandum, outlining our position on all aspects of reliably overcoming the root causes of the crisis,” Lavrov said in a statement.
“Our delegation, headed by Vladimir Medinsky, is ready to present this memorandum to the Ukrainian delegation and provide the necessary explanations in Istanbul next Monday, on June 2,” he added.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a personal meeting between Putin and Zelensky remains possible, but must follow progress in negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
“There are no changes in the position on the principal possibility of such a meeting,” he told reporters when asked by TASS.
Peskov stressed, however, that any meeting between the two leaders should be based on concrete agreements reached during negotiations, rather than being held in isolation.
