PUTRAJAYA, July 1 (Bernama) -- The engagement sessions for the 2027 Budget are now officially underway, with input being gathered from multiple ministries and locations across the country, according to Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

He explained that the Ministry of Finance (MOF), together with the relevant ministries, is actively conducting these sessions to shape the budget, which is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament this October.

Speaking to reporters after observing the BUDI Diesel programme at a petrol station here today, Amir Hamzah stressed that the government is taking a measured approach to ensure the 2027 Budget stays firmly aligned with the nation's broader policy direction.

At its core, he explained, the budget continues to be anchored in the MADANI Economy framework, with a dual focus on raising both the "ceiling" and the "floor" of the economy, boosting competitiveness at the top while strengthening support and opportunity at the base, to drive more inclusive and sustainable growth.

Other recently announced policies, including the 13th Malaysia Plan, National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) and National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), are also guiding the government's policy direction, he added.

"I do not want to pre-empt the budget presentation, but the government's structure and approach remain consistent, grounded in the MADANI Economy framework," he said, while emphasising that the government remains committed to steering the nation towards developed-nation status by 2030.

For context, Budget 2026 totalled RM419.2 billion, comprising RM338.2 billion in operating expenditure and RM81 billion in development expenditure.

It also optimised RM50.8 billion in investments from government-linked investment companies, Federal statutory bodies, and public-private partnerships to support the implementation of various government initiatives.
