KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Rapid KL’s Shah Alam Line recorded 62,184 passenger trips on its first day of operations yesterday, thus reflecting encouraging public response to the new rail service.

In a statement today, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) said the figure comprised trips made using train service, feeder buses and the Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) service, which were officially launched on Sunday (June 28).

Of the total, 58,865 trips were made on the train service itself, while 3,319 journeys involved Rapid KL’s first-and-last-mile network, namely 1,883 feeder bus trips and 1,436 trips via the ROD service.

Prasarana Group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the positive public response proved that there is a need for a rail network along the western corridor of the Klang Valley.

He aded that the figures also showed high demand for new mobility options connecting residential areas, employment centres, educational institutions and commercial hubs in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.

“This is a very encouraging start. We will contiue to monitor passenger travel patterns, operational performance and passenger feedback to ensure the travel experience continues to improve as more people start using this line,” he said.

To ensure smooth operations, Rapid KL will deploy operations personnel, station officers and Rapid Troopers at all stations along the Shah Alam Line to assist commuters with travel information and guidance on transfers to feeder bus and ROD services.

Prasarana also reminded the public that free rides on the Shah Alam Line and its feeder bus network will continue until July 31.
