KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Palestinian government has claimed that the Israeli Zionist regime has continued to subject Palestinian detainees to widespread and systematic human rights violations, including torture, cruel treatment, and denial of medical care.
In its Situation Report #92: Occupied Palestine for the period of June 22 to 29, 2026, issued by the Palestine Prime Minister’s Office today, the government said Palestinian prisoners’ institutions have documented various forms of abuse perpetrated against detainees by Israeli occupation authorities.
Detainees reportedly have been subjected to beatings, prolonged stress positions, electrocutions, sleep deprivation, starvation, and sexual violence.
The report cited Israeli prison conditions which it deemed inhumane, such as inadequate food and water, deliberate spread of diseases, and denial of essential healthcare.
According to the report, more than 3,376 Palestinian administrative detainees are being held without charge or trial, in addition to 360 Palestinian children who are also being held.
The report revealed that three pregnant Palestinian women currently being held face starvation, humiliation, harsh interrogations, strip searches, and denial of adequate prenatal healthcare.
The report also said hundreds of hundreds of released detainees suffer severe physical and psychological trauma, with some dying shortly after release due to the abuse endured.
According to figures issued together with the report, more than 9,500 Palestinian detainees have been recorded in the West Bank including occupied Jerusalem.
The report also said that since early October 2023, at least 73,054 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, including at least 21,638 children, while 173,480 others injured.
In addition, 11,200 Palestinians remain missing, more than 1,700 health workers killed, and 262 journalists and media workers also killed.
In the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, the report informed that 1,175 Palestinians have been killed, including 246 children, while 12,919 others injured as of June 22.
For the period beginning June 22 to 28, the report recorded 362 military assaults by the Israeli army, 47 shooting incidents, not including airstrikes, and 114 incidents of settler terror attacks in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, during its weekly session on Tuesday, the Palestinian Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the government’s reform agenda, with a particular focus on governance and public financial management to strengthen transparency, accountability, and fiscal sustainability.
The Cabinet highlighted President Mahmoud Abbas’s approval of amendments to the Value Added Tax (VAT) law, enabling the launch of a comprehensive institutional development program within the Ministry of Finance, the establishment of a Higher Council for Public Revenues, and the modernisation of financial administration.
According to the report, the move was made to align the financial administration with international standards, combat tax evasion and smuggling, and safeguard the delivery of essential public services.
The Palestinian Cabinet also approved the General Policy for the Telecommunications and Information Technology Sector (2026–2028) to accelerate digital transformation, enhance government digital services, and improve digital governance.
The Palestinian government also endorsed the replacement of paper health insurance cards with smart cards as part of healthcare modernisation efforts, improving data security, and supporting future expansions of digital health services.
