PARIS, June 30 (Bernama-dpa) -- French President Emmanuel Macron wore sunglasses during meetings with the sultan of Oman on Monday because of an eye problem, French media reported, months after the eyewear drew widespread attention during the World Economic Forum in Davos, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.
Macron wore the aviator-style sunglasses while greeting Sultan Haitham bin Tariq outside the Élysée Palace, and kept them on during subsequent talks.
French media, citing people close to the president, said Macron was wearing the sunglasses because of an eye problem. In January, officials said he had a minor eye inflammation that required him to wear sunglasses for about two weeks.
The sunglasses attracted widespread attention when Macron wore them at the World Economic Forum, drawing mockery from US President Donald Trump, while in France people joked that he resembled Tom Cruise in the film Top Gun.
French luxury eyewear maker Henry Jullien later said it received a surge in inquiries about the model, which it continues to promote using a photograph of Macron.
