Masjid Warisan At TRX A Legitimate Need, Not A Subject Of Controversy - YADIM

PUTRAJAYA, June 27 (Bernama) -- The construction of the Masjid Warisan in front of the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) Tower is a legitimate public necessity and a rightful facility for the Muslim community in the area, and should not be made a subject of controversy, said Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) chief executive officer Zamri Zainal Abidin.

He said the mosque should have been built when the financial district first became operational, as it is a basic place of worship needed by thousands of Muslim employees working in the country’s premier financial hub.

“Calls by certain parties questioning the construction of the mosque are baseless and run contrary to the spirit of unity embodied in the Malaysia MADANI aspiration,” he said in a statement today.

Zamri cited the KLCC development and Merdeka 118, both of which have mosque facilities without affecting economic activity, as proof that places of worship and commercial developments can coexist harmoniously within a modern urban ecosystem.

“It is therefore unfair to continue denying thousands of Muslim workers at TRX a basic place of worship, given their significant contribution to the country’s economy,” he said.

Zamri also dismissed claims that the call to prayer would disrupt business activities, stressing that no law or policy requires commercial operations to stop during the azan.

“The Malaysia MADANI framework championed by the government emphasises inclusive well-being, strong institutions and shared prosperity. The construction of Masjid Warisan at TRX is a clear manifestation of these values,” he said.

He also urged all parties, including political leaders, not to exploit the mosque's construction for political purposes, saying doing so could create unnecessary tension.

Last Tuesday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the construction of Masjid Warisan in front of the TRX Tower would proceed as planned.

He said the project had long been in the pipeline and would strengthen the role of mosques as centres of community harmony.

Zulkifli added that those with concerns about the project could seek clarification from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council.
