TOKYO, June 26 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Japan has decided to provide emergency grant aid totaling US$15 million to address urgent humanitarian needs in West Asia, with about US$10 million earmarked for war-affected Iran, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Friday, Kyodo News reported.

The assistance, to be delivered through international organisations, also includes about US$4 million for Lebanon and US$1 million for Palestinians in the West Bank. It will provide food, medical supplies and other humanitarian aid.

"Peace and stability in the Middle East are of vital importance to Japan," Motegi told a news conference, adding that the region continues to face significant humanitarian challenges.

He said Japan will continue working closely with relevant countries and international organisations to help improve humanitarian conditions and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
