KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government and the Ministry of Defence have expressed their condolences to the families of Corporal Norazmi Abu Bakar and Private Siti Khadijah Sungip, who were killed in a blast during a grenade-throwing training earlier today.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry and the government pray that the victims’ families will be given strength and resilience in facing the ordeal.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the deaths of Corporal Norazmi of the 6th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment, and Private Siti Khadijah of the 1st Squadron, Royal Army Engineers Regiment, who were killed in the incident.

“Let us all pray that Allah SWT bestows mercy upon the souls of Corporal Norazmi and Private Siti Khadijah, forgives their sins, and admits them among His faithful servants,” he said in a social media post tonight.

Earlier, the Malaysian Army confirmed the identities of two servicemen who were killed in an explosion during a grenade-throwing exercise at Hobart Camp firing range in Gurun, Kedah.

It said both victims, who sustained serious injuries in the 10.57 am incident, died while en route to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.
