ALOR GAJAH, June 16 (Bernama) -- Melaka's 5G network coverage has reached 89.9 per cent, while 4G coverage now stands at 100 per cent in populated areas, reflecting continued efforts to strengthen digital connectivity across the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the achievement was further supported by the operation of a new telecommunications tower in Taman Seri Jeram, Masjid Tanah, which will provide wider and more stable network coverage for residents.

The 60-metre tower is the 400th completed by Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn Bhd (MICTH) out of a total of 450 towers built statewide. It can accommodate up to seven telecommunications service providers, helping to improve internet access and service quality.

Speaking after officiating the tower's launch today, Ab Rauf said the facility would benefit residents in Kampung Seri Jeram, Taman Seri Jeram, Taman Jeram Perdana, Jalan Lubok Redan, Kolej Komuniti Masjid Tanah, Taman Seri Paya Rumput and Kampung Paya Rumput.

He added that Kampung Jeram and Kampung Pulau now enjoy full 4G coverage and access to 5G services following ongoing infrastructure upgrades.

To date, 74 towers are fully operational, while another 13 are in the final stages before activation.

Ab Rauf said the progress demonstrates the state government's commitment to ensuring digital development reaches communities across Melaka, including rural areas.

"We do not want the digital divide to continue separating urban and rural communities. We want every Melakan to have equal opportunities to benefit from technology and the digital economy," he said.

He also thanked MICTH, CelcomDigi, the Alor Gajah District and Land Office, Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Melaka for their support in strengthening the state's telecommunications infrastructure.
