PETALING JAYA, June 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's medal target for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is near finalisation, said Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
He said the target would be announced a few days before the Malaysian contingent's flag-handing ceremony scheduled for July 16.
“Extensive discussions have already taken place and we are now at the final stage of determining the medal target.
“Insya-Allah, we will announce the medal target in the near future,” he said when met after the Honour of Kings Asian Games qualifier here today.
At the 2022 edition in Birmingham, Malaysia returned with a total of seven gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.
However, the national contingent's medal haul at the upcoming edition is expected to be affected somewhat following the exclusion of several sports that have traditionally been Malaysia's gold-medal contributors, including badminton and diving.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23 to Aug 2.
