PUTRAJAYA, June 16 (Bernama) -- Youth in the country have been urged to draw inspiration from Prophet Muhammad SAW’s hijrah (migration) story to bring about positive changes in their lives.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Hasan said Prophet Muhammad’s hijrah marked a significant turning point in Islamic history, leading to a comprehensive transformation of society that should serve as an example for all.
“Youth in Malaysia have immense potential. Let us reflect on and internalise the hijrah of Prophet Muhammad SAW, which was a turning point, the beginning of holistic change rooted in character, manners and knowledge,” he said.
He said this to reporters after attending a tausiyyah programme and a prayer recital ceremony in conjunction with the national Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration at Putra Mosque here today.
Commenting on this year’s celebration, Zulkifli said the theme ‘MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati’ is highly relevant as the country faces various challenges, including social issues involving the youth.
He said the national-level celebration also takes on a different approach this year, with the main programme starting at a mosque to reflect on Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Madinah, where the mosque became the first institution he established.
“This year, we chose Putra Mosque as the starting point to spark a renewed wave of remembrance of Prophet Muhammad’s struggle. The mosque is where civilisation and community development begin,” he said.
Zulkifli added that the celebration is being held on a modest scale, taking into account the need for energy conservation amid the ongoing global supply crisis.
Meanwhile, a keynote lecture by the national and international Maal Hijrah figures will be held at the JAKIM Auditorium on June 18, expected to be attended by about 1,000 participants.
“The programme will provide an opportunity for the public to hear the messages, views and experiences of these figures in embracing the spirit of hijrah and the development of the ummah,” he said.
The highlight of the national Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration is scheduled to take place tomorrow in conjunction with 1 Muharam 1448H at Putra Mosque, beginning at 7 am with the presentation of the national and international Maal Hijrah Figure awards.
The ceremony will be officiated by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.
