KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 offers Sabah entrepreneurs a prime platform to promote their products, expand networks, and explore new markets.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said Sabah's agricultural products, such as tropical fruits, fisheries, livestock, and various local downstream products, have immense potential for domestic and international markets.

He said this includes Sabah's premium rice, QAV1 avocado, Tenom pomelo, and Kundasang red onions.

“As a Sabah native, I am very proud to see an increasing number of local agro-entrepreneurs successfully producing high-quality and competitive products.

“I believe that the active participation of Sabah entrepreneurs in MAHA 2026 will unlock more opportunities for investment, trade, and rural economic development,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the Road to MAHA 2026 @ Sabah programme, held in conjunction with the National Unity Week 2026 celebration at the Likas Stadium grounds in Kota Kinabalu, today. Also present was Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri.

The Road to MAHA 2026 @ Sabah programme runs from June 11 to June 14. It features a range of activities for visitors, including the Agro MADANI Sale, Happy Hour Sales, the Eat More Local Fruits Campaign, agro-entrepreneur promotions, agricultural demonstrations, pocket talks, colouring contests, and weight-guessing activities.

Chan added that MAHA, now in its 14th edition, will bring together the nation’s agricultural community, agro-food industry players, policymakers, investors, and the general public under a shared vision to strengthen the national agro-food sector.

He said MAHA serves as a crucial platform for introducing new technologies, innovations, and solutions that can boost productivity and reduce dependence on food imports.

“In a world facing food supply chain uncertainties, climate change, and rising production costs, food security is no longer an option but a national priority,” he said.

MAHA 2026 is expected to attract four million visitors, feature over 2,000 exhibitors, set a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) value target of RM8 billion, and aim to achieve total sales of RM58 million.

Themed ‘Penciptaan Nilai Demi Keterjaminan Makanan’ (Value Creation for Food Security). MAHA 2026 is scheduled to take place at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from Aug 28 to Sept 6.
