KUALA KRAI, June 9 (Bernama) -- The Kota Bharu-Gua Musang federal road at Bukit Akil here, which was closed due to controlled blasting works for the Central Spine Road (LTU) project, is expected to reopen to motorists at 6 am tomorrow.
Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) director Nik Badlihisham Nik Ismail said cleaning works are under way after debris from the controlled blasting, consisting of rocks and soil, fell on both sides of the road, rendering it impassable to all vehicles.
“A controlled blasting operation was carried out under police supervision at 4.05 pm today.
“The impact of this blast was unusual and unexpected. Controlled blasting is expected to produce only minimal effects,” he told Bernama tonight.
However, he said no damage or injuries were reported in the incident.
Road users have been advised to use alternative routes to Kota Bharu via Kampung Peria, Mengkebang and Batu Balai until cleaning works are completed and the road is reopened for public safety.
Images and videos of large piles of rocks covering the road at Bukit Akil, along with heavy traffic congestion, went viral on social media this afternoon, raising concern among motorists using the route.
