KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The atmosphere of Aidiladha today is no longer solely about arriving at the mosque at dawn for prayers, witnessing the ‘ibadah korban’ (animal sacrificial rites), or personally distributing the meat to neighbours and those in need.

As lifestyles evolve and technology continues to advance, many Muslims are now choosing to perform their religious obligation online.

It is not merely for convenience, but also to ensure that the trust and blessings of the sacrifice can reach a wider community - especially those truly in need, including people overseas who are facing poverty, hunger, and prolonged conflict.

Albusyro Enterprise development manager Muhammad Abdussalam Mohd Nidzomuddin said the initiatives managed by his organisation in Yemen, Uganda, and Somalia focus on communities in desperate need, involving animals such as cows, camels, and goats.

He said that in these countries, many people are still living in heartbreaking hardship, with some only having the opportunity to taste meat during Aidiladha season.

“Our focus is on communities like these so that the benefits of the sacrifice can reach those who truly need it. This act of sacrifice is a sign of gratitude for all the blessings Allah SWT has bestowed upon us throughout the year, while also teaching us to share our sustenance with those in need,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

To ensure participants are able to follow the journey, Muhammad Abdussalam said various forms of documentation are provided to give a clearer picture of the korban process.

According to him, photographs taken before and after the slaughter, videos of the sacrificial process, and certificates of participation are given to each participant as proof that the ibadah has been carried out.

“We show the entire process - from selecting the animal and carrying out the slaughter to skinning and distributing the meat to recipients. Participants can see for themselves how the process takes place,” he said.

A participant, Siti Rohani Mohd Yasin from Rawang, Selangor, said the experience gave her a new perspective on how the religious obligation is performed in today’s modern era.

According to her, the sharing of related receipts, photographs, and information gave her a clearer understanding of how the process was carried out.

“After the payment is made, they also share photographs of the animals before and after the slaughter, as well as information related to the process,” she said.

The medical practitioner, who had previously participated in conventional ‘ibadah korban’, said her experience managing the meat distribution herself made her view the online platform as an alternative way of performing the deed.

“Each method offers a different experience. For me, online korban can be a good option, especially for individuals who are busy but still wish to fulfil the religious obligation,” she said.

Meanwhile, musician Noor Azwan Adnan from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, who has never performed the animal sacrificial rites online, views the growing practice as an approach that aligns with changing times.

He said ‘ibadah korban’ is not merely a process of slaughtering animals, but also carries a deeper meaning related to sincerity, sacrifice, and obedience to Allah SWT.

“Whether performed online or physically, what matters most is that the intention and trust are preserved. In this era of technology and increasingly flexible lifestyles, digital methods can serve as a medium to facilitate the ibadah, but the true value of sacrifice still lies in the sincerity of the heart and the benefits that reach those in need,” he said.

He added that the online method also represents a positive new approach as it helps facilitate the fulfilment of ‘ibadah korban’ without changing the original purpose of the worship.
