KUCHING, May 17 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Immigration Department detained 18 foreigners under Operasi Selera in several locations around the city this morning.
The department said that restaurants and residential houses in Taman Sukma, Kampung Semerah Padi, Tabuan, Pekan Batu 10 and a food court in Batu 4 were inspected during the operation as they were suspected of hiring foreigners without valid work permits and passes or allowing them to stay at the premises.
“During the raids, several foreigners tried to escape and avoid being detained but thanks to the fast action and skill of operation officers, they were all detained for further action,” the department said in a statement today.
The department also reiterated its commitment to intensify enforcement action to detain foreigners who violate the Immigration Act 1959/63.
