PH Convention Opens, PM Anwar To Deliver Keynote Address This Afternoon

JOHOR BAHRU, May 17 (Bernama) -- The Pakatan Harapan (PH) 2026 Convention, which brings together about 5,000 delegates and leaders from across the country, opened here today with a focus on preparations for upcoming state elections and the 16th General Election (GE16).

Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver the keynote address and officiate the convention’s main event later this afternoon.

With the theme “Tekad MADANI, Harapan Rakyat”, the one-day convention began at 8.30am with a town hall session involving PH wings, followed by speeches from PH state chairmen.

The coalition’s top leadership is expected to arrive at 1.30pm for the Presidential Council session.

Among leaders scheduled to speak are Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Anthony Loke, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and PH secretary-general  Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Anwar’s address, scheduled for 3.35pm, is expected to outline the coalition’s strategic direction, particularly in facing the upcoming Johor and Melaka state elections, while further strengthening cooperation within the Unity government ahead of GE16.

In addition to political speeches, the convention will also feature a symbolic handover of election machinery kits as a sign of grassroots preparedness.

The atmosphere at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre compound this morning was lively, with delegates dressed in their respective party attire, reflecting unity among PH component parties namely Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP and Amanah.
